listening to create an effective relationship between client and architect; improving efficiency and sustantability by both problem-seeking and problem-solving; considering design impacts for creative, cost effective solutions

CBSA Architects is a full service architectural design firm in Western North Carolina. Located in Hickory, NC, our LEED accredited professionals serve the Piedmont and Western North Carolina regions, as well as Tennessee and Virginia.  Since our establishment in 1934 by Robert Clemmer, CBSA has sought to provide our clients with creative, cost effective and comprehensive solutions.

Ernest K. Sills, AIA, LEED-AP, President, directs the daily operations of CBSA Architects. His leadership continues the heritage of meeting the specific individual needs of each client. Known for taking a hands-on approach to each of our projects from start to finish, we provide the client with a single source of contact. Our success can be credited to the ability to function as a design team, not just a single architect.

We are a multi-faceted design firm at CBSA Architects, and it shows in our impressive portfolio. From traditional to modern architecture, our firm has designed and overseen projects for new facilities, renovations and additions for civic, educational, governmental, corporate, religious, healthcare and hospitality uses. We pride ourselves in being flexible and cost-efficient, providing clients with lower costs per square foot while consistently completing projects on time and on budget.

An Environmentally Conscious Firm
CBSA’s team of LEED accredited professionals make use of the most energy efficient and sustainable building practices. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified buildings can deliver substantial savings in energy use – 25-30% better than the national average – which saves you money.

CBSA is also a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The USGBC is dedicated to expanding green building practices and education. Green building practices not only improve the energy performance of the buildings, but can also provide environmental, economic, health and community benefits.

CBSA has composed a core of consultants including plumbing, mechanical and electrical engineers, civil and landscape architects, and various other consultants to facilitate the design process, create a facility built for form and function, and carry out construction administration from bid to closeout.
