Statesville Recreation Center
Square Footage 36,016 SF
Cost $6,200,000
The City of Statesville’s long range plan called for a new recreation center and pool to replace badly over crowded and worn out facilities that were no longer suitable for their intended use. The City commissioned our firm to design a new state of the art, full service facility on a large piece of land which it had purchased earlier for this purpose. Working with Sports Plan, Inc, our recreational consultant, we developed a new 36,016 square foot recreation center, state of the art swimming pool/splash pool and associated parking , walking trails and game areas. The site, while quite large, was constricted by the flood plane which covered over ¾ of the property. This flood plane land could be used for walking trails and outdoor games such as volley ball and a skate board park but not for building. This restriction forced the overall development into the very linear shape you see today. The building contains a full size gym, aerobics room, multi-purpose rooms and a work out area with free waits and cardio vascular machines. The center piece of the building is a 30’ climbing wall located in the center of the activity area. The City’s Recreation Department are also housed in a portion of the building. |

“We hired CBSA to design and administer construction of our civic center. CBSA completed design and construction within a year and the center was $950,000 below its $4.5 million budget. We have received universal praise for their design from the public and we have always found them to be on target with construction budgets. I have found Ernie Sills and Robert Smith to be the most practical, knowledgeable architects I have ever worked with.”
